New York Fashion Week Favourites: SS16

17 Sept 2015

As September arrives and the various fashion weeks around the world begin, I seem to spend more time glued to Instagram or Vogue's website to see what new looks have hit the catwalk for Spring/Summer. This year I decided that I would add all of the looks that I love to my Pinterest board dedicated to catwalk fashion (see here), but I also wanted to share some in a blog post too. So here we have, in no particular order, my favourite shows from New York Fashion Week!

GIVENCHY:
Gothic and glamorous monochrome designs with lots of silk and lace means that this collection is right up my street. I love how the different textures are used, adding more interest and edge to the pieces.
JASON WU:
With design details (e.g. ruffles, fraying, and cut-outs) that make the garments look incredibly flattering, Jason Wu's SS16 collection defines modern glamour and sophistication. Naturally, my favourite looks are the black and white ones but there were also some gorgeous pink and green pieces that are worth a mention.

PAMELLA ROLAND:
If Disney Princesses were real people and lived in today's world, they would be wearing Pamella Roland SS16 for sure. The different shapes, materials, and colours used in this collection are just stunning. However, the designs aren't sickly sweet and too girly but instead elegant yet quirky. Who knew how much I could love a pink gown and a glitzy jumpsuit?

DION LEE:
Feminine and well-cut designs with a sensual feel to them. I particularly like the suede pieces and the paler shades that opened the show, as well as the flattering low necklines.

HERVÉ LÉGER:
Moving away from the classic bandage dress style but by no means any less amazing. Still figure hugging with different patterns and embellishments to perfectly enhance the body shape, I adored the majority of the pieces and the hairstyle worn by models was cute too.

THAKOON:
Lightweight and modern with a grungy edge, the Thakoon SS16 collection achieves the perfect balance of comfort and smartness which I like a lot.

DIANE VON FURSTENBURG:
Seriously retro vibes from DVF's SS16 collection. Not what I'd usually be attracted to what with all the prints and bright colours but how can you not love clothes like this when they look so beautiful? I especially love the designs modelled by Kendall Jenner and Lily Aldridge.

VICTORIA BECKHAM:
As a huge Victoria Beckham fan it won't be a surprise that her SS16 show is amongst my favourites. I love how her collections are always extremely wearable rather than extravagant. This season I feel like the designs have an urban feel thanks to the various prints and pops of colour and I like the continuation of swishy midi-length skirts also seen in her AW15 collection.

JONATHAN SIMKHAI:
Lace, monochrome, and figure hugging in the right places with flowing skirts - what more could a girl ask for? I would probably wear every piece from Jonathan Simkhai's SS16 collection if I could.

CAROLINA HERRERA:
It's official, I've fallen in love with the colour pink once again. There is no better word than pretty to describe the Carolina Herrera SS16 collection. Interesting, modern designs in various shades of pink yet still with a slightly classic feel to them. If pink isn't for you then don't worry - there's also some gorgeous white pieces and some black and navy too. I was definitely not sat flicking through images of this show repeatedly as I loved everything so much...

As you can tell it was pretty difficult rounding up my favourite shows from NYFW hence why there are ten, but each one definitely deserved a feature and I couldn't choose any less (in fact, I probably would've included more if I didn't limit myself). This season has definitely made me love Spring/Summer style more despite saying in my previous post that I prefer Autumn/Winter and also proves that monochrome CAN be worn all year round.

What was your favourite NYFW SS16 show?
