Over the past couple of months I have accumulated some new makeup items, mainly Christmas gifts, which I have been using recently and wanted to share with you today. It's no lie that I love makeup but I haven't been buying much for myself lately as I am happy with the products I'm currently using and feel as though I own slightly too many. Despite that, I'm always grateful to unwrap a Charlotte Tilbury box or two (who wouldn't be?) and I am head over heels for some of my new items.
You will know that I was previously using the Intensive Skin Serum Foundation by Bobbi Brown if you have read my previous posts and saw my review, however I decided to try a different one because I really hated the packaging and the dropper applicator. The ladies at my nearest Bobbi Brown counter are always so nice and helpful and they recommended the Moisture Rich Foundation. I really loved the formula of my previous foundation and wanted something which was similar in consistency and finish. I've been using this for around 3 weeks now and although I don't love it quite as much, it is very similar and just happens to be slightly cheaper with better packaging too.
Each year when MAC releases their Christmas collection, I always stop by the counter in awe of all the pretty products and have to resist the urge to treat myself. This year, I was lucky enough to receive this set of four gold, warm-toned pigments from my friend Livvy. At first I was rather apprehensive about using them as I thought I was going to make a complete mess and end up with eyeshadow fallout all over my face. When I used them, however, I was surprised by how easy they are to apply with a fluffy brush as long as you tap off the excess before. All of the colours are so beautiful and wearable - I even wore the glitter on Christmas Day - and I'd definitely recommend trying a MAC pigment if you're into eyeshadows, as they have an extensive range of colours and finishes.
This product is one that is very different for me, an Eye Powder Pencil from Charlotte Tilbury in the shade 'Sophia' which is a medium brown. I wear a thin line of black liquid liner on a daily basis to define my eyes and make my lashes appear thicker as they don't curl well and never stray from this look. I've always thought it looks amazing though when people wear smoky brown eyeliner and I would love to pull it off whilst getting the same amount of definition as I do using a black eyeliner. I feel like after receiving this, now is my chance to practice - I will feedback if the results are successful!
Next are two budget-friendly items from Rimmel which I have been using daily since December. I have issues with finding a mascara that works for me as my lashes are long, straight, and very stubborn. Previously there have only been 2 or 3 that I've got on well with but I was pleasantly surprised to discover Rimmel's Extra Super Lash mascara. It manages to separate my lashes whilst giving them a decent curl that holds and for £4.99 I can't ask for much more. The other product is the Brow This Way eyebrow styling gel. I used to use a clear mascara to set my eyebrow hairs in place then just stopped using anything altogether but I've been enjoying using this after filling in my eyebrows to stop any hairs from straying and looking messy. My only advice would be to use it with a light hand as otherwise it can look far too intense, but apart from that you can enjoy your eyebrows looking perfect all day with this.
Lipsticks are probably my favourite item to receive, despite the fact that I have far too many than necessary for one person. The first lipstick is MAC 'Angel' which I already own and have nearly used up. This is a soft pale pink shade in a Frost finish which is great for daily use, it's not one of my favourite lipstick finishes but I think it manages to work well with this colour as long as you don't have super dry lips. The other is a lipstick which is new to me but I've been wanting to try for ages as I've heard so much about it - Charlotte Tilbury 'Bitch Perfect'. I'd only ever used Charlotte Tilbury's matte lipsticks before but swiftly fell in love with this one. It's a great everyday pinky nude shade which is very similar to my favourite limited edition Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in 'Miss Kensington', meaning I will no longer want to cry when I finish that one as I've found the perfect alternative. I've pretty much been wearing these two lipsticks solidly and neglecting all of my others for the past month or so.
Lastly is another Charlotte Tilbury product (my family know anything Charlotte Tilbury is fail-safe gift for me as I'm obssesed) in the form of a lip gloss. This is in the shade 'Hall of Fame' and although it looks quite garish in the tube, once applied it provides a translucent pink sheen to the lips, looking lovely on top of any nude lipsticks. If you're seeking a lip gloss which isn't thick and sticky, Charlotte Tilbury is the place to go, trust me.
I hope you enjoyed this little insight into what my newest makeup products are, feel free to comment if you'd like to see a full review on any of the products. Also, if you have any recommendations on how to use the brown pencil eyeliner I would love to know. I think it's about time I stop purchasing any more makeup for a while as my collection seems to be overflowing... I guess I'll just stick to clothes for a while.
